I have been flying all my life. As well as flying gliders I also fly aeroplanes, and instruct in motor-gliders. Although I love flight of any sort (I have flown, as an ‘involved’ passenger light twins, turbines, balloons, microlights, vintage aeroplanes, fast, modern aeroplanes, helicopters etc), my real passion is pure gliding. I have lost count of the number of times I have been flying somewhere in a light aeroplane and wished that I were in a glider. Gliders are such good tools for exploring the ocean of air in which we live. Feeling the aircraft respond to the lift and sink and exploiting the opportunities for soaring in a motor-less craft is endlessly fascinating. In a glider, it is completely down to your knowledge and skill to make progress or simply stay in the air. The principles we use to extract energy from the atmosphere and the importance of smooth, accurate flight are often misunderstood. As a gliding / motor-glider instructor and coach, I hope to transfer some skill and enthusiasm to you through printed media and flight.
